Vision stories both empower and heal the soul. The right story told at the right time helps a soul knit together the broken pieces of past and present lives. Stories work in the unconscious mind slowly over time, healing our spirits as we absorb their truths. Recounting our numinous encounters helps us to know things about ourselves, our relationships with others and the source of being that we could not discover in any other way. Stories evoke a more powerful response than doctrine or precept. They transmit real life-changing power to the hearer. A narrative tends to do what it tells, mediating suffering and healing.
We will spend the day immersed in transforming Soul stories:
John Sumwalt is a storyteller, author, pastor and lifelong student of mystical phenomena. He is the author of nine books including Vision Stories: True Accounts of Visions, Angels, & Healing Miracles. His books incorporate hundreds of personal mystical encounters collected from around the world. John writes a weekly spiritual column for Agri-View and several other Wisconsin newspapers. He created StoryShare, an online magazine for CSS Publishing. Since retiring from 40 years of pastoral ministry, John has been devoted to telling mystical stories in retreats and seminars.
Philip Hasheider is a Wisconsin beef farmer and an award-winning author who was dead for six minutes and came back to tell about it. “I didn’t recognize I had died because I didn’t feel dead.” In Six Minutes in Eternity, Hasheider describes adjusting to his new ethereal body, which resembled the shape of his physical body on earth, now a “textured hologram… This new form was a translucent remembrance of what once was me, but now is me…. I was floating on waves… upon this sea of silken energy vibrations that surrounded and enfolded me like a warm cocoon… I felt unseen hands that surrounded and lifted me as if I had been assigned to them in my passage.”
Jodi Blazek Gehr is a Benedictine Oblate and SoulCollage Facilitator. She is a retired high school business teacher and department chair. Her passion is writing for her website, Being Benedictine, and leading retreats in “SoulCollage, a creative and intuitive act of cutting and pasting images into a collage, co-creating with the Divine. It is a form of self-reflection and prayer. Images guide us to a new level of awareness and reveal a deeper understanding of thought and feeling. Holding an image in prayer is powerful.”
