Resilience is the capacity to prepare for, recover from, and adapt in the face of stress, challenge, or adversity.  Think of resilience as the amount of energy we have stored in an inner battery—energy available to use not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  Emotions and resilience are closely related.  A key to sustaining good health, optimal function, and resilience is the ability to manage our emotions.

With a high level of resilience or a fully charged battery, we have a greater capacity to remain calm, think clearly and be in control of our emotions so we can stay composed and not overreact, especially when dealing with challenging people or situations.  We can more easily “roll with the punches” and flow through the challenges, rather than become stressed out, which further drains energy.   Positive emotions and effective self-regulation skills have been shown to prolong health and significantly reduce premature death.

On the other hand, a low level of resilience to stress has been shown to make us vulnerable to many diseases, such as hypertension, cardiac events, sleep disorders, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and many other disorders.  Stress and negative emotions increase the severity and worsen the prognosis for individuals suffering illnesses.

Our program will explore

The Institute of HeartMath’s discoveries

The secret of building resilience to better cope with stress

How to create flow for increased health, happiness, and performance

Effects of resilience on the four domains: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual

Join us for this interesting and useful exploration into the mind-body connection.

About our presenter:

Jeff Armstrong is a Co-Founder of Mindful Communications (MC).  MC was born about five years ago, when Jeff decided to explore “mindfulness” as a tool to help him improve how he was feeling.  After discovering the practical benefits (increased energy, more focus, improved resilience and compassion), he became very passionate about the science of what The Institute of HeartMath calls “coherence” and how it can have a positive impact on our brain, body and life.

Jeff teaches simple, highly-effective, evidence-based techniques to calm reactive emotions, neutralize stress, and create more resilience & flow.  He also teaches how to integrate this knowledge into your day, for maximum personal and professional effectiveness. Jeff is a HeartMath trainer, certified in the science of building resilience and creating flow.

Should you be motivated to “prime your pump” on this subject prior to attending the workshop, he recommends reading the book, Heart Intelligence!
